When I say BAY you say ZING!

Great Scott!  This is HEAVY!

Today is the day in the "Future" that Marty McFly Travelled back to from 1985:

What is even more shocking is that he drove his Delorean straight to UK town of Basingstoke as Biff was shopping at Festival Place for a new plasma TV....

But that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Basingstoke factology...

Its also a little known fact that Einstein first penned his theory of general relativity in Basingstoke Nando's. He was inspired when he dropped his peri peri chicken wrap on his new Clarke's shoes.

This may seem insignificant to you or I but it changed our understanding of science and the universe forever. The famous equation e=mc2 was derived and in case you're not familiar with this let me explain in simple terms:
E = Ecstasy
M = Music (Quality Live Bands)
x = multiplied by
C = Cider
2 = More Cider

So in Layman's terms the amount of happiness in the universe is directly proportional to relationship between how much live music and cider is consumed. This explains how a poor band can sound better after more alcohol and why people at music festivals are always so ecstatic.

To celebrate this pivotal moment in human understanding some Einstein like geniuses at Basingstoke Borough Council decided to commemorate the occasion with an annual festival called "Basingstoke Live" and the next one falls on this coming Saturday 10th July.

So here are 3 good reasons for coming along:

1) Its F R E E - which is the best price in the universe

2) Your very own SMASH ROBOTS are playing the 100% tent on Saturday afternoon and will be dropping big tunes all over your ears!

3) The forecast is somewhere between Hot and Scorchio so conditions are perfect for a champagne supernova of a weekend.

The good news is you dont even need to borrow plutonium from the Libyans to get there as its serviced by mainline railways!

See you there peoples!

BTW- The shopping centre in Basingstoke is called Festival Place so if you end up in a big building full of shops you are at the wrong "Festival" and should not attempt to crowd surf in Topman.

Bulb's, biscuits, beer & 'Bots!

Pay attention class its time for a history lesson (aaargh!)

At the time of the first census in 1801 Reading had a population of just under 10,000 (are you bored yet? bear with me!)

In 1807 John Sutton a corn and seed merchant founded Suttons seeds. (who cares!) In 1822 Joseph Huntley opened a biscuit bakery. Another large industry was brewing (now you're talking!).

So Reading became known as the town of 3 B's, bulbs, biscuits and breweries...

Nearly 200 years later in the early "noughties" you can wander into the town centre and find hidden beneath the town hall the charming venue known as "The 3B's" And so ends our history lesson... Hurrah!!!!

Smash Robots played the 3B's last night and fortunately there was plenty of beer and not a jammydodger in sight! With the fantastic Gimble starting proceedings it was apparent that the 3B's is a honey pot for the discerning Berkshire music lover and as a result we had an absolute ball.

The highlight for us was an impromptu encore, which may be the norm at Wembley but is kinda rare on the pub circuit.

Special thanks to must go to Marlon and friends and all those who came over to talk to us after the gig with such warm words of encouragement. It was one of the nights that make it all the graft worth while and we left feeling energised and excited and more in love with music than ever.

We salute all those who made it a memorable night, lets do it again soon!

:)

A night to remember

Last nights Club Velocity night went down a treat thanks to engaging and supportive crowd in the intimate Rising Sun Arts Centre in Reading.

The initial omens weren't that good - sound problems during
the sound check indicated that we might be fighting an uphill battle but frankly we are made of sterner stuff! At one point there was a rather loud bang and flash as the power tripped on the sound test... was this gig going to happen at all....oh yes it was!!!

After a great set from November 5 we took to the stage to give it large, possibly too large for the PA! As soon as we kicked off our opening number "Coming On Strong" the PA speakers started cracking and clipping and struggling to handle the vocal barrage from Raf and Rich. But as they say in Show business, "the show must go on" so despite the technological sabotage we powered on through while the sound guy rushed to give Raf another mic and twiddle endless knobs on the mixing desk. By the end of the song we had vocals back on line and a generous round of applause from a knowledgeable audience.

Fortunately that was the worst of the problems over and we were determined to give everything we could to a great audience. The responsive
crowd brought out the best in us and in the end we had one of
those gigs that just buzzes throughout and beyond.

Thanks to all those that attended for making it a great night!

Right then, see you back for live action soon at The Face Bar in Reading on Friday March 6th!

SMASH... First BBC Radio Airplay!

OY YOY YOI!!!!!

Ask anyone in a band why they do it and most will say its because the best feeling in the world is playing your heart out in front of a crowd of people who are really enjoying themselves...

However the next best feeling has to be hearing a song that you have written and performed being played on the radio for the first time... It's exhilarating and weird at the same time!

So for helping us to achieve this we want to thank Linda Serck on BBC Berkshire, who opened her show with "A Girl Like You" last night and Sid Siddle of Velocity Recordings for his great promoting.

You can listen to the show for a week online at the link below:

ROCK!

2009 - The year of the Robot?!

2008 has been a complete whirlwind and a lot of fun but it will soon be 2009 and we wanted to share some of our plans. We are currently preparing the 2009 festival/university tour and will be announcing dates soon, so add yourself to the mailing list and we will update you soon! To all the nutters going to the Bournemouth Easter Festival again, thanks for your support and YES we are playing in 2009 so watch this space!

A big thank you to all our regular visitiors. We had over 700 downloads of our demo tracks last month, which is a bit mad! We have already booked studio time February/March next year, so expect our debut EP in time for Easter!

On a more vein note, we are have our first ever photo-shoot in December this year, so Rich has already tried to book some time with Gok for some fashion tips (He's a stylist not a miracle worker Rich ;-p). We will also be proudly unveiling our new secret weapon and drummer David Tyler (or Dr.T to those in the gang!). Dave enjoys Belgian beer and making a lot of noise... as you can imagine he's fitting in nicely!

Finally 2009 will see the first Smash Robots Music Video, which will be posted as an exclusive to fans first- so make sure you are added on the website/facebook or myspace. If you are creative, having an amazing idea for it or simply would like a cameo appearance in a music video then contact us and let us know!

ROCK!!!

Excited beyond belief!

We are playing tonight at the Plug N Play in Reading and it will be a very good night indeed.  3 Quality bands and us ;-) and its made even more important in that it is Eric's farewell gig as he leaves us to travel around the world next week.

What can be said about Eric AKA"Jerome the Metronome" that hasnt already been said in the tabloid press?!  Well he is a bloody good bloke for a start and will be very sorely missed by his friends (mainly because he makes the best mojito's) and I would like to set the record straight and say that Rich and I are by no means jealous that you are flying around the world for a year!

If music be the food of love then Eric's contribution to Smash Robots has been smorgersboard of gourmet canapes with a chicken in a basket side salad!  Eric has stirred up so many crowds into a frenzied state of rapture simply by whipping his flute out at the right moment... in fact we hope its packed in his rucksack for comedy pied piper photo opportunities in rat infested areas on his travels!

We love you man!!!!

Smash and the Hoffmeister!

First there was myspace... but too many random bands kept trying to 'friend' you, so you moved to Facebook.  Soon you realized that facebook was created by someone's ex-lover in order to stalk them and with the recent layout changes you couldnt use it anyway.  So where do the digital social butterfly's hang these days... HOFFSPACE of course!

That's right... Did you ever have a Black Trans Am and a perm?  Have you run in slow motion down a beach in red shorts with Pamela Anderson?  Well if you answered yes to both those questions you need to be on Hoffspace!

A little known fact is that whenever David Hasselhoff comes to little old Great Britain he likes to rock out with Smash Robots... His favorite track is "Easy When You're Young" but he likes to sing-along and change the words a little to "Easy When You're HUNG!" and who can blame him?!

Smash Robots were the 16350th member of Hoffspace- what took us so long?  Click the picture to visit our profile...

BEST FEEL GOOD TRACK!

WOW!!!!! What a week!

We wanted to know what people thought of our début recordings so we entered them on www.garageband.com, a site where people rate and review new music.

Each week thousands of new tracks are reviewed by thousands of reviewers and so we are completely flabbergasted to be No.1 "Feel Good Track" this week with our song "A Girl Like You" also coming No.2 in "The Best Male Vocal" category.

On top of this our other song "Easy When You're Young" has only just been added and has been awarded "Track of the Day!" Award... We are totally over the moon with excitement!!!

Its really great to get feedback from people saying that they love what we do, it just makes us want to write more! Hopefully you like our stuff too. If they keep doing well we'll have to book some more studio time to our other tracks down!

Bournemouth Gig Tomorrow!

 We are all totally up for tomorrow night in Bournemouth.  We can assure all those attending that that its going to be fun!  Bring your birthday suit for any post gig skinny-dipping and lets hope the sharks dont come in!

Now On Myspace!

That's right the inevitable has happened and we have followed in the footsteps of every other band in the world and got a myspace page.  It seems despite facebook and other sites taking some of its share of users its actually alive and kicking and the best site for new music on the web.  We now have already got fans from Columbia, Ukraine and Brazil... I wonder which one we would want to tour first?

Check us out there and add us if you are a myspacer by clicking icon below.
